The Governor's Scholars Program needs your help!  In order for us to provide information to our supporters regarding the return in investment, we are collecting data about 2016 Scholar enrollment and scholarships.
 
Your school has received a scholarship information packet in the mail.  If you have already completed this information for your counselor, thank you!  If not, you can submit your information through the GSP website.
 
As you know, part of the mission of the Governor's Scholars Program emphasizes inspiring our most talented young leaders to continue to excel academically as they pursue higher education and beyond.  This goal is of particular interest to the future of the state of Kentucky and helps our Program maximize the number of scholars able to participate. 

In recognition of all that Guidance Counselors, School Administrators, and GSP Coordinators provide for the Governor's Scholars Program, we would like to offer them a valuable professional development opportunity.  We will be hosting special training sessions for Guidance Counselors, GSP Coordinators, and school and district administrators to equip them with all of the information, tips, and advice that they need to help their juniors compile their best possible GSP application.  These workshops will take place on each of the three GSP campuses as follow:

Mr. Davis is the proud father of two Governor's Scholars.

Ms. Skidmore is the mother of a Governor's Scholar and grandmother of one of this year's 2017 Governor's Scholars.
 
They will be joining a Board of dedicated civic, business, economic, and community leaders and we look forward to the valuable contributions each will make to the Governor's Scholars Program.

​Hans Chapman, Governor's Scholars Program Enginnering Faculty and father of a 2017 Governor's Scholar, has accepted the position to be the Program Director for the Associate in Engineering (AE) program at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina.
 
Trey Grayson (GSP-Centre '89) shared the two photos below.  The first, is him and his father on Opening Day of the GSP-Centre campus in 1989.  The second, is him and his daughter on Opening Day of the GSP-Murray campus this year (2017).

Congratulations to Salome Nnoromele, a past GSP Faculty member and parent of several Governor's Scholars, on her new position at Ohio University's Southern Campus.  Salome will be serving as the Associate Dean of Student and Academic Affairs beginning July 1, 2017.
 
Kolbie Vincent (GSP- Morehead '16) recently received the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship and was named 1 of 10 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars for the University of Louisville.  Kolbie will also be a part of the Cardinal Marching Band when she starts at U of L this Fall.

​Packets of information, including campus and focus area assignments, have been mailed to all 2017 accepted scholars from the GSP-Central Office in Frankfort.  These packets also include information about what to bring to campus this summer and the addresses of the GSP campus websites, which will provide a number of very helpful campus-specific resources once each campus opens.
 
We look forward to welcoming all Scholars on one of the three GSP campuses (GSP-Morehead State University, GSP-Murray State University, GSP-Northern Kentucky University) in June.

Catholic Charities of Louisville has named Lisa DeJaco Crutcher (GSP-Murray '92)
their new Chief Executive Officer.  Lisa began the job on April 3rd and says she felt like "divine sign posts" had led her there.  "A friend said I was training for this for many years. I really feel like God wants me to be doing this."  The full article about Lisa's appointment was originally published by The Record.
 
John Darnell (GSP-NKU '01), former GSP Resident Advisor, Faculty, and Associate Campus Director and recent Woodford County High School Assistant Principal, has been named the new Principal of Bellevue High School in Northern Kentucky.  John, his wife Megan, and their four children, while sad to leave Woodford County, look forward to the new opportunity!
 
Logan Franxman (GSP-Morehead '16), U.S. Naval Academy Appointee to the Class of 2021, was recently announced as the winner of the Goddard Schools National Scholarship for $10,000.  Logan was 1 of 3 semifinalists and with the support and online votes of friends, family, and the GSP community was selected!
 
Congratulations to Lakynn Hodgens (GSP-Murray '16) on being awarded a Woodford R. Marie Kannapel (GSP-NKU '16), and some of her fellow classmates, were recently interviewed by Louisville's 89.3 WFPL.  Marie spoke on her choice to attend Valley High School, the changes that have occurred during the course of her four years there, and her and her parents' feelings about her upcoming graduation.  Listen to the full interview.
 
The Duke University's Department of Economics selected Hannah Nnoromele (GSP-Bellarmine '12 and GSP-Morehead Office '13) as their student speaker for this year's annual Graduation Recognition Ceremony.  Hannah, who graduated with an economics major and a psychology minor, reminded graduates that in order to fully appreciate their successes, they must not overlook the struggles they have faced and overcome.  
 
Mary Katherine Oberman (GSP-Morehead '16) and Kiley Short (GSP-Murray '16) were recently honored with being accepted into the Grissom Scholars Program at Centre College.  Available to first-year applicants, the Program offers 10 high-achieving, first-generation college students a full tuition scholarship and $5,000 in educational enrichment funds.
